Sanders tough on crime, except that of former boss
Donald Trump has been indicted, and Sarah Sanders is coming to his defense via lukewarm twitter takes and a few retweets.
Just this week Sanders unveiled a criminal justice reform package that will change sentencing, increase funding to officer recruitment and pay, and add more prison beds. She calls it the “Safer Stronger Arkansas Legislative Package,” which is a name that objectively needs some work.
Importantly, Sarah’s breaking from her dad’s sentiment from 2015: “we should invest in communities, education, and treatment, rather than in PRISONS.” Wow, Mike! You bought your baby girl a legislature, and couldn’t take the time to reason with her about common-sense prison reform? We imprison more people per capita than most states, and crime is still on the rise. If prison beds helped curb crime, we’d be the safest state in the country.
All of this tough-on-crime hooplah is RICH given Sarah’s immediate rushing to defend her former boss now that he’s been indicted. The rule of law is a cornerstone of functioning democracies, but we’ve seen from Sarah and Trump alike that making our democracy as dysfunctional as possible is the true north of their governing philosophies.
